With his film essay CONCEPTUAL PARADISE (G 2006), Stefan Römer continued his analytical and experimental exploration of form and story-telling in artistic documentary. In a three-year-long research period, he interviewed numerous outstanding international artists. The film reconstructs the discussions through which conceptualism became one of the most relevant questions in contemporary art. It becomes clear that there can be no single valid definition of conceptual art because its artistic and philosophical complexity is accounted for by the very debate. Art history is one of struggle about strategies of representation. Therefore, this film about conceptualism is peppered throughout by a reflection on filmmaking with Hartmut Bitomsky.
