The latest episode film by Elżbieta Benkowska, NOWY ŚWIAT (2015) and both works by the director brothers Janusz and Andrzej Kondratiuk being screened as part of KinoPolska are about the Polish capital Warsaw as a place of longing. NOWY ŚWIAT (New World, E. Benkowska, Ł. Ostalski, M. Wawrzecki, PL 2015, 14.3.) is the name of a shopping mall in Warsaw and a haven of hope for three immigrants from Belarus, Afghanistan and Ukraine, seeking a new home and a sense of normality. DZIEWCZYNA DO WZIĘCIA  (Marriageable Girls, J. Kondratiuk, PL 1972, 15.3.) In this black comedy, three young women from the provinces spend a day in Warsaw with the hope of enjoying some urban pleasures and perhaps even finding love. WNIEBOWZIĘCI (A. Kondratiuk, PL 1973, 15.3.) After winning the lottery, two men fulfill their dream of flying but discover that flying alone does not bring happiness... (mg)
