The invisible consequences of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan form the focus of Nina Fischer and Maroan el Sani’s video installation SPIRITS CLOSING THEIR EYES (2012) and the eponymous film version: Interviews are combined with pictures of places and stories that reflect the atmosphere in Japan after the fallout. The international media art duo had already explored the process of photographic reproduction to visualize thoughts in an older project “10 sec. thinking about the future”. Two films from this project complement the program. Since this year, the films have been available from Deutsche Kinemathek’s distribution catalogue. A selection will be shown as part of Filmspotting on the occasion of Berlin Art Week. The screenings will be followed by discussions with Nina Fischer and Maroan el Sani.(24.9.)
