LEBEN IN WITTSTOCK (Volker Koepp, GDR 1984) is an impressive documentary about working and living in the GDR and a moving portrait of three women who are confident as they enter adulthood and start their professional life but at the same time feel a sense of creeping resignation. In the mid-1970s, Volker Koepp started documenting the construction and opening a textile factory in Wittstock an der Dosse in Brandenburg. This would become the most important textile manufacturer in the GDR. Koepp accompanied the development of the plant and the women over years and put together his observations preliminarily in LEBEN IN WITTSTOCK. On the occasion of his 75th birthday, Deutsche Kinemathek Film Distribution is releasing a program of his films. Guest: Volker Koepp. (ah) (24.6.)
