On a school trip, tenth-grader Ulla, who is passionate committed to environmental protection, finds out that a weekend house has been built illegally in a protected natural area. At the same time, Ulla gets to know Winfried. His father, a general director, succeeded in getting building permission for the house by sidestepping the appropriate hurdles in the environmental office. Jörg Foth’s adaptation of Wolf Spillner’s youth novel “Wasseramsel” BIOLOGIE! (East Germany 1990) doesn’t just express harsh criticism for the lack of environmental awareness in large parts of the population, but also reveals the misuse of office, cronyism, and corruption among the ranks of the East German leadership. To coincide with the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall, DEFA film distribution is presenting a series of films from the period of reunification. With an introduction by Mirko Wiermann.
