Female Artists Program

Filmstill Female Artists Program

For the 12th time, Arsenal is presenting the film projects of grant holders who have received funding from the Female Artists Program of the Berlin Senate Chancellery for Cultural Affairs in the past two years. From October 11 to 15, artistic positions and practices that allow for disruptions and ambiguities will be reflected upon in studio discussions. The idea is to position, question, and unfold new narratives. The conscious decision to collaborate and the related momentum of cohesion can above all be observed in a striking number of works, as can the interweaving of diverse forms of artistic expression or the search for affinity of thought within interdisciplinary approaches.

This artistic practice is key to understanding Ebba Jahn's film IDEA - MINIATURES BY IMPROVISERS (G 2022), which has received numerous awards at international festivals. We will open our female artists' program on October 11 with the Berlin premiere of Jahn's audiovisual dialogue with musicians from the international improvisation scene. At the artist's request, musicians with whom she has long collaborated were given carte blanche for short musical pieces, ideally accompanied by their own images, that they would contribute to the project. With this trust in the artistic visions of all participants, a free-spirited and moving video collage - a Free Style Free Music Film - and thus a liberating cinematic improvisation came into being through the fusion of subtle sound worlds and idiosyncratic visual ideas.
