Age Restrictions

The minimum age for admission to events at the Berlinale is 18. Admission is according to age specified by the FSK rating.

Hygiene Policy

Entry to all Forum and Forum Expanded screening takes place in line with the Berlinale’s special hygiene rules.

The Berlinale guidelines regarding health protection during the festival are based on the general Covid-19 regulations of the State of Berlin as well as supplementary provisions by the Berlin Senate and are mandatory for all visitors and guests.

The Berlin Senate has specified the 2G-plus-mask-plus-test model as a basic requirement for holding the Berlin Internationalen Film Festival, meaning participants must be vaccinated against or have recovered from Covid-19 as well as adhering to the supplementary measure of presenting the negative result of a point-of-care (PoC) antigen test carried out within the last 24 hours and following the general requirement to wear a mask at all times. People who have received a "booster" vaccination as well as people who have recovered from Covid-19 and have already received two vaccinations are exempt from the requirement to provide a negative test result.

Please note that by participating in the Berlinale, you agree to adhere to these regulations.

General Information

You must stay at home if you register any cold-like symptoms!

To avoid queues and reduce additional contacts as much as possible, tickets are only being sold online. It is mandatory to use the allocated seat specified on your ticket. Please arrive at the respective event in good time: delays are to be expected due to the checks at admission.

Please follow the signs and the instructions given by the venue staff.

Any violations of the rules will not be tolerated. In extreme cases, people breaking the rules may be immediately ejected from the venue.

The 2G-Plus-Mask-Plus-Test Model

Participation in Berlinale events is only permitted for people who can show a negative test carried out within the last 24 hours, wear an FFP2 mask and who are also fully vaccinated or have already recovered from a Covid-19 infection (2G):

Vaccinated means:

  • People who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 with an EU-approved vaccine and whose last required second vaccination was at least 14 days and no longer than 9 months ago.
  • People who have been vaccinated twice against Covid-19 with an EU-approved vaccine and have received a so called booster shot with an EU-approved vaccine against Covid-19. The booster shot should have not been given longer than 9 months ago.

Recovered means:

  • People who can produce a positive PCR test result for an infection with the Covid-19 virus from more than six months ago and who have received at least one vaccination against Covid-19 with an EU-approved vaccine whose vaccination was at least 14 days and no longer than 9 months ago.
  • People who can produce a positive PCR test result for an infection with the Covid-19 virus from at least 28 days and no longer than six months ago.

A change to the validity of the "recovered" status required to participate in Berlinale events from six months down to three months is still under consideration. Hence, this detail may change at short notice in the run-up to the festival.

2G Evidence

  • Evidence of vaccination or recovery from people within the EU must be digitally verifiable. Upon entry to the venue, the evidence must be digitally verified and checked against a photo ID.
  • Certificates from non-EU citizens must be presented in German, English, French, Italian or Spanish and contain all the necessary data (personal data, vaccine, date, issuer of the certificate). They will be checked against a photo ID. In this case, the certificate can also be presented in paper form.

Test Certificates

  • In addition to the 2G evidence, Berlinale guests and visitors must also take a Covid-19 test. Only digitally verifiable test certificates that prove a negative test result from a point-of-care (PoC) antigen test carried out within the last 24 hours will be accepted. Self-tests are not permitted as evidence.
  • People who have received a "booster" vaccination are exempt from the requirement to provide a negative test result.
  • People who have recovered from Covid-19 and have already received two vaccinations are to be treated in the same way as those who have received a "booster" vaccination and thus are also exempt from the requirement to provide a negative test result.

Exceptions

  • People aged 18 and over who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons must present a negative PCR test result from an official test station (no older than 48 hours at the time of admission) and proof of their inability to be vaccinated by means of a medical certificate.

Face Coverings

It is mandatory in the screening venues to wear an FFP2 mask or mask of a comparable protective standard, such as types KN95, N95 or KF94. This applies from the time you enter the venue and also when you are seated.

Cloth masks, surgical masks, FFP2 masks with valves and so-called face shields are not permitted.

People unable to wear a mouth-and-nose covering due to a health impairment, chronic illness or disability are exempt from the requirement to wear a mask upon presentation of a corresponding medical certificate and a negative test result carried out within the last 24 hours. The test result must be digitally verifiable.

Social Distancing Rules

A minimum distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained between visitors before the 2G requirements check. Please follow the signs and instructions given by the venue staff when entering and leaving the venue.
The mandatory 2G proof and the requirement to wear a mask means there is no need to maintain social distances inside the venues.
The venues are being used with a reduced capacity of 50%.
Please sit in your allocated seat.
