For the sixth time: Forum Expanded

And once again, everything is different. The program is open for surprising works that critically counter or add something to cinema. That's from what its form is derived, and it depends on the selection of installations, films, videos, performances, lectures, or audio pieces, at which venue and in which formats Forum Expanded makes its appearance. This year, there is a remarkably strong focus on the relationship between political thought and aesthetic form, on works that articulate a precise formal vocabulary to position themselves, that formulate clear-cut questions, and that utilize the specificity of cinematography for this purpose or to redefine it.

The venues of this year's Forum Expanded are Kino Arsenal, Filmhaus, Salon Populaire (Kunstsaele Berlin), HAU/Hebbel am Ufer, the Canadian Embassy, and Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart.

And on the radio: For the first time, Forum Expanded temporarily dispenses with all images, with Deutschlandradio Kultur presenting new audio works in their series "Klangkunst".

At HAU – Hebbel am Ufer, Forum Expanded and dOCUMENTA (13) present a new work by French artist Pierre Huyghe. In a panel discussion, Georg Seeßlen, Francis Kéré, Matthias Lilienthal, Carl Hegemann and Anselm Franke talk about the life and work of Christoph Schlingensief, who in 2008 and 2010 was represented in the program of Forum Expanded.

The "History Lessons" are dedicated to the relation of film history and the present. Special guest is Barbara Hammer. In cooperation with the Neue Berliner Kunstverein (NBK), we present a panel discussion on the question of which concepts of the archive are still viable and what needs to be newly conceived.

The highlight is a concert: Tony Conrad and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Thee Majesty), two influential figures of experimental music, will meet on the stage of the HAU / Hebbel am Ufer. Genesis Breyer P-Orridge is also the protagonist in Marie Losier's The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye shown in the Forum program.

The foyer of the Arsenal will again be a meeting point: this year, the Canadian artist Kika Thorne came up with the concept. The bar is run by Prinzessinnengarten, and, like every year, b_books will set up their bookstand.
