Living Archive

The artist, filmmaker and theoretician Hito Steyerl is a participant in the Living Archive project and has developed works with students from her class at the UdK Berlin for the "Copy in Motion" exhibition. The focus is on NOW!, a 1965 film about anti-black discrimination in the US by the Cuban director Santiago Álvarez, in which he puts together stills in a montage and juxtaposes them rhythmically with the lyrics of the eponymous song. The exhibition asks about the relevance of film in the digital age, a time when images and sounds are increasingly mobile, and appropriation and pirating are daily means of communication.

Location: The Bethanien's project room from 23.2. to 4.3.
