Classics Not Just For Children and What is Cinema?

THE CIRCUS, 1928

Our events for children and young people in November revolve around slapstick, animation and montage. We are presenting THE CIRCUS(Charles Chaplin, USA 1928 | 4. & 18.11.) as this month's classic not just for children. It is the arena of a fully-staffed circus of all places that becomes the refuge for a tramp (Chaplin) being pursued by the police for being an alleged pickpocket; the tramp becomes the unintended star of the show. As part of the 2012 School Cinema Week, we are also inviting school children to attend two "What is Cinema?" events with introductions and discussions. On 13.11., the subject is "Film Tricks and Magical Images" about visual trickery and magical film experiments in early cinema. On 15.11., we are showing the revolution drama BRONENOSEZ POTEMKIN (Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein, USSR 1925).
