In 2007 the queer art-punk legend, performance artist, painter, and writer Vaginal Davis left Los Angeles and came to Berlin to work with the CHEAP Collective. Soon after she began her own film series under the title ‘Rising Stars Falling Stars.’ Since then Vaginal Davis – with curatorial and musical support from Daniel Hendrickson – has been regularly presenting selections from the archive of the Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art, first at the Arsenal Cinema and for the last year in the Cupola of silent green Kulturquartier. Silent film stars like Louise Brooks appear alongside unfamiliar rarities of feminism such as Not a Pretty Picture from 1976 or underground classics by the likes of Kenneth Anger. Rising Stars, Falling Stars will serve as both the finale to ‘Think Film No. 5: Archival Constellations’ and the transition to drinks and conversation.

Vaginal Davis is an artist who works in intermedia arts and sciences.
