zu dem KalenderIn July 1943, the 18-year-old Carlo (Jean-Louis Trintignant), the son of a well-known fascist dignitary to whom he owes his exemption from military service, joins friends who are spending their vacation at the beach in Riccione. He falls in love with 30-year-old Roberta (Eleonora Rossi Drago), whose young daughter runs into his arms when she is frightened by a low-flying German fighter plane. Roberta lost her husband in the war and lives with her mother, who does not tolerate her daughter's acquaintance with the son of a fascist.
The story of an impossible love set at the time of Mussolini’s fall on July 25, the armistice with the Allies on September 8, 1943 and the subsequent occupation by the Wehrmacht was one of the first Italian films to address the historic summer of 1943, and also marked Valerio Zurlini’s artistic breakthrough as a director.
