The unscrupulous gangster Chas is forced to go into hiding when he kills the wrong person in a fit of rage and suddenly ends up on the hit list himself. He finds refuge in the cave-like flat of a former rock star (played by Mick Jagger) and his two girlfriends and become swiftly integrated into their hedonistic lifestyle of sex and drugs. Two hugely contrasting worlds collide: the gangster underworld and its tough masculinity and the hippie-esque, drug-fueled counterculture. It is not only the images that are sliced and diced by way of jittery cuts and rapid camera movements; the interpersonal relations are also akin to people crashing into one another, even as the possibility of transformation remains. A film like a delirious fever dream in which all certainties dissolve and both self-images and gender identities are deconstructed. (al)
