Between 1993 and 2005, his sister Britta filmed countless scenes with her brother, who was addicted to heroin—not initially with the intention of making a film, but rather to hold on to memories. Her first video camera became a natural part of their relationship: it is passed back and forth between the siblings, offering protection, sparking conflicts. The raw materiality of the video footage and the shaky handheld camera are more than just technical prerequisites: in the many close-ups, they retain an unpretentious immediacy. The film is an unflinchingly honest, yet tender portrait of a sibling relationship—intimate, direct and unguarded: “Hey little sister, what have you done?” (fh)
