Poznámky z Eremocénu

The essay film POZNÁMKY Z EREMOCÉNU finds pleasure in disparate materialities rich in glitch. Director Viera Čákanyová shot the film using an analogue camera and then processed the film material using a LIDAR scanner, which produces numerous visual instabilities, whether unreliable contours or areas of color that extend outwards without warning. She allows different hypotheses to float freely, has artificial and human intelligence enter into debate, and makes the cultural pessimism of the coming era of loneliness (the titular “Eremocene”) collide with the cheerful playfulness of the film’s digital surfaces.
