Opening of the Arsenal Cinema

For the third time in its history, a new Arsenal Cinema is opening: After years on the move, first in Schöneberg, then Potsdamer Platz and now Wedding. For the first time, everything that makes up the Arsenal Film Institute has been brought together under one roof: Berlinale Forum and Forum Expanded, the distribution department, the film and paper archives, the Campus—and now the cinema as well.

The result is a space where the Arsenal’s more than 60-year history—marked by continuity and change—will be carried into the future.

In silent green’s heritage-listed West Hall, a cinema equipped with state-of-the-art technology has been built, where, as before, all analog and digital formats can be shown. The acoustic design ensures that all sound formats—including Dolby Atmos—can be reproduced at excellent quality, while also allowing silent film accompaniment and spoken contributions from guests and the audience to come across clearly.
