SAFETY LAST! (Fred Newmeyer, Sam Taylor, USA 1923, 3., 10., 17. & 24.1.) is Harold Lloyd's most famous comedy. Full of ambition, Harold goes to the city where he hopes he will make a success of his career so that he can marry his girlfriend as soon as possible. He starts pretending in his letters that he has become a successful businessman, whereas in reality he is a petty salesman who has a difficult boss and annoying customers. When his girlfriend announces that she is coming to visit, he has to take matters into his own hands. He devises a spectacular advertising strategy for the department store he works at: the climb of a skyscraper! A series of unlucky circumstances leads to him having to scale the 12-story skyscraper himself. The breathtaking, nail-biting scene, which features countless obstacles, is spectacular. (al)
