Film still from SWING TIME. Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dancing.
[Translate to English:] SWING TIME

Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire made up one of the great screen couples of film history and were pioneers of the musical.  The rise of the genre was shaped by their dazzling song and dance numbers and minutes-long uncut passages of the greatest choreographic innovation and perfection. The glamourous world of their films, the elegance, the lightness and wit of their dance performances offered millions of cinemagoers in the US, the chance to dream themselves temporarily out of unemployment and poverty during the Great Depression. The success of their films led to not fewer than nine joint works between 1933 and 1939 and a comeback after 10 years. Decades later, their accomplished performances (to music by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and George Gershwin) have lost none of their radiance and charm. (Milena Gregor)
