What do we know when we know where something is? The Production of Space

The question “What Do We Know When We Know Where Something Is?” will also be pursued in three events that deal with production locations and the cinematic con- struction of places. The filmmaker and critic Mark Peranson (LA ÚLTIMA PELÍCULA, Mark Peranson/Raya Martin, Canada/Denmark/Mexico/Philippines 2013) and the artist and filmmaker Morgan Fisher (Standard Gauge, USA 1984) speak about what kind of meaning 35mm film is being charged with, now that it’s currently in the process of disappearing, and what the connection might be between this and the idea of world cinema or structural cinema. Cairo – the Still and the Moving is the title of a work-in- progress presentation followed by a podium discussion. Clips from The Vote will be shown, a portrait of four presidential candidates before the first election after the beginning of the revolution in 2012. The directors Hanan Abdalla and Cressida Trew discuss with Viola Shafik, whose film Scent of Revolution can also be seen as a Forum Special. With his new film umsonst, Stephan Geene presents an image of Kreuzkölln, a neighborhood that grew out of Kreuzberg in the 25 years following the fall of the Berlin Wall, and which has experienced a generational shift in the process. The film was produced in a collective work context, which can also be located there.
