How is the current pandemic interfering with filmmaking? More than one film in the programme poses questions about post pandemic art – sometimes in a playful way, sometimes with analytical observation. The selection is also distinguished by entirely different subject matters: stories from this world and the next, views of America, the preoccupation with literature, anarchic comedies, questions about the value of work and cinematic explorations far beyond the city testify to the broad range of contemporary filmmaking.
Complementing the 52nd Berlinale Forum’s main programme, the Forum Special offers audiences the opportunity to immerse themselves in film history. The latest instalment of the “Fiktionsbescheinigung” series presents six film programmes from four decades which explore the connection between culture in general, cinema in particular, society and racism. Two historical films – which could not be more topical today – are now available in newly restored versions. And finally, one film is dedicated to the history of the Forum and its founders themselves.
