The DEFA Foundation Presents

BERLIN – PRENZLAUER BERG – BEGEGNUNGEN ZWISCHEN DEM 1. MAI UND DEM 1. JULI 1990, 1990

In November, the DEFA Foundation is dedicating its film series to documentary filmmaker Petra Tschörtner, who died in July. Her films live from their affection for the weaker members of society and the special way in which they view the world, a gaze always laconic and unsentimental.

SCHNELLES GLÜCK (1988) shows impressions from the horse-racing track in the Karlshorst district of Berlin. In BERLIN – PRENZLAUER BERG – BEGEGNUNGEN ZWISCHEN DEM 1. MAI UND DEM 1. JULI 1990 (1990), the band "Herbst in Peking" sings "We need revolution" in the ruins of the Wall. The atmosphere is slightly confused and slightly melancholy and anarchic. HEIM(1978) is a portrait of young people in a children's home, which was banned and was only released in 1990. UNSERE ALTEN TAGE (1989) is concerned with those living in old people's homes. DAS FREIE ORCHESTER (1988) consists of factory workers, salespeople and caretakers, whose avant-garde music allows them to deal with all that they haven't achieved in their lives.  (5.11.)
