UNSEEING LITTLE EGYPT – A Live Cinema Experiment
Unseeing Little Egypt has had more than one title and has come out in different forms:  a short film, single channel video, an online exhibition, a talk, a text and a collaborative site-specific performance. It continues to change each time it meets a new audience. This recurring formal fluctuation is perhaps due to the refusal of the work’s central muse, a dancer who goes by the name Little Egypt, to appear in the film. Her aversion to the screen probably has to do with some unpleasant experiences she recalls from her past, including her performance in a silent American film produced by Thomas Edison in the late 1890s and her cameo appearance in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s The Great Ziegfeld in 1937. She might or might not make an appearance this time. (aa) (2.3.)
